Episode #283 DFRPG Strangely Enough Not Roberto
The Crew is back and someone is in trouble, someone did something they shouldn’t have, something rash and impulsive that may get them in a LOT of trouble. And it wasn’t Roberto…
Ah, yeah, the section on elements in Paranet Papers is great. I'm familiar with this kind of thing when my own group set up a DFRPG campaign set in Hong Kong (which we haven't started yet but it's all sitting there), and I had to look into the Chinese element system of Wu Xing to understand HK's casters better. You find interesting ideas of both philosophy and association, such as Wind being associated with the element of Wood, or Ice being governed by the element of Metal rather than Water. For any elemental specialist casters out there, I heartily recommend looking into what thoughts of classical philosophy or other such systems considered to be associated with what elements. Or just crib from your favorite works of fiction (For example, after ATLA I can't help but think of Lightning as being associated with Fire).
GMs can get stuff out of this research too. My favorite generic adversary idea came from this look into Wu Xing, where "soap" is associated with Fire - thus the concept of the "Soap Demon", a spirit of caustic soap bubbles which tries to kill you and is immune to all harm (because it's sentient soap bubbles) unless you use Water, the natural enemy of Fire in the Wu Xing system.
